Report: "River of Fulton"
I met TW at VFW's at 8:30am. Air tempurature 54
degrees, water @51 dgrees, light offshore wind,
glassy, 7-9' a-frames were piling onto the Fulton
Street bar. They were breaking hard and hollow and
sucking mud as they moved over the inner bar. My
wetsuit was wet and cold from the day before. We
paddled out, duck-diving countless waves before making
it outside. Right away I got a good right, big and
open and juicy. I paddled for a left and pulled out
as TW dropped in deeper. A few more nice waves came
my way and then my leash snapped when I failed to
punch through the back of a close-out. It took me a
while to swim in to the beach and by the time I got in
I was way down in Kelly's Cove. I ran back to the van
and grabbed another leash. As I was heading back out
I saw TW and Dan walking south to get back to Fulton.
We paddled back out without too much trouble. I
hooked into a big right-hander and stuck a late drop.
It was a long ride and I rode it too far inside,
paying for it dearly. Try as I might I could not get
back outside. I ducked-dived about 50 waves and it
was only my fury that kept me from turning around. By
the time I made it I was about a hundred yards from
Seal Rocks. I paddled as hard as I could against the
current but could not pass Balboa Street. I ran into
TW then and we decided to call it a session.
